I'm sure most here remember Elijah Thomas.
He was a very highly rated recruit, 5 stars, I think. Out of Texas, really took things by storm for a period there. He liked UNLV a lot, and UNLV could have had him (IMO) pretty easily. In the end, UNLV moved onto other players and Thomas ended up at TAMU.
He battled some weight issues and he had some injuries, got way out of shape and I know many here watched him in summer ball (right before UNLV decided to pass on him). And he wasn't good. At all. Didn't know whether to attribute that to the weight and the injuries, whether he was just overrated via a fluke great run of basketball or what.
It's still early in his career, but he's a non factor at TAMU. Not getting minutes, not putting up numbers.
I brought this up because I hadn't thought about the kid in quite some time and I just looked up his stats and found his struggles.
10 mpg, 4 ppg, 3 rpg, 60+% from floor, 33% from line.
Lesson - "stars" don't always equate to success or a lack of success. Another lesson... I know a lot of people here really wanted Thomas badly. But maybe, just maybe, NCAA coaches know more than we do.
His story isn't completely written so perhaps this is unfair at this point in time.
