For the record I'm in the UNLV camp that prefers to retain Rice for at least one more year to lead this young, now experience, sophomore men to the NCAA's. If he fails to be successful next year then I'm all for replacement.

I don't know much about Howland other then he won a lot while at UCLA and people said he played a slow boring style of play. However, this quote and article makes me think if he did end up here we might now have to worry about that style of play.

"Howland went to more of a fast-break, up-tempo offense in his final season, and the Bruins went from 69 points a game the year before to 74 per game, winning the Pac-12 regular season with a 13-5 record. They were routed in their NCAA tournament opener by Minnesota, and Howland was out. He's sorry he didn't play faster sooner."It's something I should have done much earlier in my career," he says. "That is a regret, because I thought it really helped us. (Arizona coach) Sean Miller told me this fall it was really tough for them to deal with how much we pushed the ball. We beat them three times that year. That's something - pushing the tempo - that I'll always do moving forward. It really helped."
