He "interviewed" there weeks before the smoke was even created at UNLV. I'm guessing that Mississippi State gig was "agreed upon in principal" back then and he tossed up a Hail Mary in trying to get to UNLV, knowing he had safe haven in Starkville. Of course, a few boosters jumped on board to make it more smoky.
