We have to give it to SCHERER. Its a no brainer. 24 hours to find a HC that can keep our recruits?? I dont know how much of a factor Scherer was to recruiting ,but if he could keep a majority of the players ( doubt it) then u promote him. We are so screwed. HARPER SCREWED UP. I hope Odom told him his intentions so he would be ready for this.

Not even close. Who did Kevin retain?? That was pure nepotism. WE have about 12 hours to figure it out. IMO i think Odom waiting to see how much we $$ upped his salary and it was not enough.
lol chill out dude, you act like NOBODY saw this coming. It was a real possibility with how well he did, don’t know how you can blame Harper. He’s going to get a substantial pay raise and play in the BIG10. His stock is at an all time high, strike when the iron is hot.

We cant rush into hiring an assitant in a time where the portal exists, and we are losing 30 players as is. Cant do that just to keep 17 3 star recruits. I know this sucks, but we need to do the right thing for once.

We needed 1 more season to continue to build fan loyalty, and the booster base to be able to go out and get those more expensive and proven hires. We had 1 more audition year for the Big 12. After next season, the MW becomes absolute trash, no decent player will want to be a part of it, and this gets a lot harder. So please, for once in school history, make back to back good hires. Keep the purse strings open (they were for Odom, especially by UNLV standards).

There's one coach that can come here and have immediate success, recruit, and build a staff. It will sound funny, but he will be able to connect with people...Coach O
Giving it to an assistant without talking to more qualified coaches first would be such a UNLV move. Hopefully they are past that.
Take a second to review what I said. We hired Kevin to retain recruits... I didn't say it happened because it didn't. The same thing for football. Make a good hire, it's going to be an attractive opening, we'll likely be top 25 preseason.... still lots of options
The admin has shown to be extremely short sighted. Like you said, it would be such a UNLV move.

I say give it a day or two and see who burns the phone lines calling us. You might be surprised. Things have changed. Perception has changed. Our standing in the MWC/PAC2 has changed. Many will see this as a tremendous opportunity. UNLV is pretty desirable in the G5 world now. The answer may come to us just as BO did.
Hearing Harp’s phone is blowing up with calls from coaches agents. Shouldn’t be for lack of options.
Handing the keys to Marion would be the only way to keep some of these guys on the offense at least. Not saying that’s the best move.
Absolutely, the non move to the Pac has sealed the doom of UNLV and UNR athletics. The 500 million football stadium will be for visiting teams playoff games not UNLV or UNR. Sad state of affairs when academics are put in charge of financial decisions.
Coach Odom will take Vice, Scherer and most of his staff. They will look real hard at keeping the LB coach too. A bad day for UNLV because Odom knew that with the retention of Kruger this school was doomed to irrelevance. Any new coaching staff will have to look at the entire athletic program as diseased and in need of a new AD who places winning as a priority and seats in the stands as a must. MWC is not the way so this has to be fixed.

I think he has a lot of potential. In 2 years he has a chance at 1000 yards plus a season
the retention of CKK was to maximize the potential of Odoms contract extension and the staff.
Face it. UNLV is just a stepping stone job. That isn't going to change no matter who we bring in. Let's go for the best we can get but don't get yourself too attached to anyone. At least Odom left us in a better place not counting how many we lose in the portal.
ALL of them. Nobody is staying. Atleast anyone that a major contributor. I think most of them follow him to Purdue. It will say alot about how well liked of a coach he is if they do. The only way we stop it is if we hire someone of significant. We are already way behind.
It’s sad, but that’s a reality … for me, I’d rather face it and deal with it than live in La La land.
Listen, we focus on two sports. One has completely sucked for 10 years. The other has sucked 8 of those 10 years. Two years were absolutely memorable, exciting, put a smile on our face, gave us reason to show up. I’m thankful for that.
I see Kamran Williams removed all UNLV stuff from his Twitter. I really hope Thomas stays.
Well that didn’t work out AND we have horrible basketball bleeding money. Looks like a huge all around fail for the Athletic Dept.
