Hate to say it, but I am finding myself agreeing with Graney more often these days. A lot of truth in there, and a lot of facts some rebel fans dont want to accept.

We don't have enough money, and this isn't 20 years ago. This is going to be tough.

His points about hiring a guy that can flat out coach won't happen because the name has to be flashy. I have no confidence that this works out well.

It is as much the boosters fault as the Administration. Like or not, they have to listen to them. They have the money and they will have input and it will probably be stupid.

So who are they suppose to listen to? The students who get free tickets? The at home fans who never buy tickets and stay at home and watch on TV or read about it on the internet? The fans who only once in a while buy tickets which do very little to pay for the athletic department? Those fans who buy the cheapest season tickets? or those fans who buy the mid price tickets and more expensive seats, are involved in the RAF, and donate to the program on a regular basis?

I'm going to totally agree with you and what he is saying here. Some fans here seem to think the sky is the limit. Well it's not. We are limited financially here.

He brought up the coach from Stephen F. Austin is actually someone who is a proven coach and we could afford. I am hoping that this administration does the right thing and hire a coach like that. There is a reason that all those other coaches are not coaching that they are mentioning.

The boosters who forced this desicion to be made now need to stay out of the process and let them take a serious look at possible candidates.

Look at Leon Rice. Who was he before they hired him ? Just an example. We don't need to bring in a retread ex NBA coach just because he wants to get into coaching again just so he can make another jump to the NBA. We need a college coach. The game is way different. I look at that first list and I just shake my head thinking my god I hope they have the capacity to look past the simpleton idea of bringing in a name guy who has failed at his previous jobs and is now unemployed.

The problem is I'm not sure they can.

None of the above. What, do you think they check the message boards or newspaper articles for comments? They will listen to big names boosters or maybe some other guys with some sort of connection.

I know the chances of this happening are pretty slim, but if the boosters and administration truly want quick results, they'll have to suck it up and put out the money to get someone to leave their existing program. I'm not talking about an up and coming coach at a small school, but someone consistent at a higher caliper school. If they start looking for the next bargain coach, then we're screwed. They were already increasing the cost of tickets each season under Rice, and it's not like they were paying him any extra. Vegas is full of boosters and supporters with excess funds. But I understand that they may not be as eager to donate what they're capable of donating if they're not in full support of who the university selects as a head coach. However, if the university chooses to go high caliper, it could attract the interest of more boosters than when Rice was hired.

I hope the people who make the decisions read that article.... if course i have zero confidence theyll make the right decision

I don't read Graney since his agenda is to bash UNLV and boost his alma mater. He could say glowing things about UNLV and I'd never know. I don't want to support him with clicks to his articles.
i'm the same way.

everyone else, don't fall for his BS. he has an agenda and is a slithering snake with a wicked forked tongue. his bottom line is getting Hutson for the job. you'll see in future articles...well, only if you click you will.

I agree with the last couple of articles hes written, but yeah i still hate the guy. And did you see hist list of coaches? Lol. Get outta here

I count myself among those who harbor an intense dislike of Graney. I only read this piece because it's the basis for this thread.

Having read it, my only conclusion is, there's nothing in it that hasn't already been discussed in this forum.

We need to hire a big-time coach...No kidding...A national search...d'uh...His list of names has already been named...Brown, Lavin, Henson...And no, I don't want a MWC re-tread like Shyatt or Eustachy. And I've heard Leon Rice before...Isn't he the guy that did the "Dance of Joy" at the end of our game a couple of years ago? No, No, No!!!

Like all of us, he suggests that we find the best available choice within realistic financial constraints. Speaking of economic considerations, exactly how much does one get paid to state the obvious? Where do I sign up?
