Gottlieb comments??

No doubt they are playing better, but they need to fill in the gaps to move to the top of the MWC. One or two good shooters could turn them into a good team!

I think if we had better outside shooting, that would open it up for the inside play which is currently defended tightly due to limited outside shooting from the guards.

UNLV needs a “big” who can play like Fresno State’s big man would be good enough and in addition we really need two more long athletic wing guys who can create offense on all three levels 3pt, mid-range and at the rim.

Make the NIT..
What do folks on this board think about UNLV and CBI/CIT/tourneys below NIT?

I often hear people say UNLV should decline any post season tourney below the NIT. If excluding finances, I really believe UNLV should accept any tournament they are offered. UNLV is not above anything. Especially these days. Any opportunity to get better should be welcomed, IMO.

Thoughts on other post season tourneys?

I think they’re awful. In part because nobody attends and there’s zero pride or excitement, but there wouldn’t be a huge departure from our current crowds and a CIT crowd, so there’s that

If the team “overachieves” to make one and the team genuinely wants to play, then I don’t mind it so much as long as it’s not often. Don’t want to set that as your new expectation.

But if 50 teams say no and they they get around to asking you, it’s lame AF.

But it’s been my experience that these guys don’t want to play in these lower tournaments, either does the other team …

Musselman took UNR to one and I think it helped them. If you have a younger team with potential and really wants to continue their season then why not? If they're heart is in it and you have a chance to play against decent teams and carry it over to the next season I don't see anything wrong with it. I wouldn't have said that 10 years ago.

Most of the time their hearts aren’t in it. For some, their hearts aren’t even an NIT, it can be a huge letdown.

It depends on the mindset of the team, typically the upperclassmen, seniors.

I’m not against it, but I’ve flat out heard the words “let’s just get this shit over with” in the past … and as a 5-6-7 point favorite, not surprisingly, we lost by 18 at home. I’ve seen/felt/heard more of that than “lets go win this thing”.

If they’re up for it, by all means.

This.

Gottlieb, god bless him.

Gottlieb is the biggest UNLV homer on the planet that doesn't post on Rebel-Net. I think he was watching UNLV games as a fan while leading the nation in assists (narrowly) over Dickel.

He must have bought UNLV stock a long time ago and is holding on to the UNLV penny stocks after we tanked hard in hopes we rebound.

We can't score consistently. We don't have a servicable big and get out muscled and crushed on the boards giving teams 2nd and 3rd shots against our one-and-out offense. So to Gottlieb's point, the foundation is being set. But this obviously aint the year.
