Watched this game tonight. Good contest through three quarters and then Gorman tired Durango out and ran away. Durango's starting 5 can compete with Gorman but they really have no bench.
I went to see our two Gorman recruits ( Collins and Wilkinson) but more so our Durango Commit Keshon Gilbert. I went to see him a couple of weeks ago but they were already blowing out their opponent and he sat so the scrubs could play.
Collins and Wilkinson had good games. Be interesting to see where these kids go when they make up their minds.
Gilbert is a Junior PG for Durango. Averaged 15 pts last year but I don't know his stats for this year. The following is based on one game so it's suspect.
Physicality. Much more sturdy and taller than Zaon Collins. Standing next to him I put him at @ 6'3" Not as quick as Collins but still quick with the ball. Very quick on defense.
Handles. Has primary responsibility to get the ball up the court. Handles presses well and commonly defeats double teams. Can dribble the ball at full running speed. In this game went coast to coast three times from an inbounds after a made basket.
Defense. Very good defender at this level. Quick feet. Stays in front of his man. Anticipates passes and not afraid to get in a scrum looking for the ball.
Scoring ability. Does most of his scoring inside. Very much a slasher. Not nearly as polished a finisher as Collins. Sees his teammates well but emphasizes scoring a little more than distribution.
Toughness. I like this about him. Appears to be a hard nosed player. On one play he was beat to the basket and instead of a TickyTack foul he nailed the shooter making sure there wasn't any basket. On another play he fouled a Gorman player who came up off the floor at him - didn't back down but was smart enough to avoid a T.
He's a very good H.S. player. Needs to polish his finish at the rim and needs to get an outside shot. He definitely needs to improve to see time on a D1 roster, but he has all the tools. One more year should really help.
