Goodbye Goodluck?

I hate to see it but you knew someone was going to transfer. Hopefully at his next stop he can get offensive game going. Goodluck to Goodluck.

Ridiculous. .. He was starting, he asked to come in off the bench. Had a great freshman year with ton of minutes and this season is so young. Do these kids not have the drive, work ethic or self-confidence to earn the playing time? Answer is always I'll just move schools. How has that worked out for others? Has anyone left UNLV for an equal.or higher caliber team and got more minutes and excelled?

Not the person I was expecting to see ask for a transfer. Sure he could start and get more minutes, but he is getting way more playing time than some other guys.

I'm seriously shocked by this news. And this team looks so promising. Does he not like winning?

I was not expecting to see one of the big men who was actually getting minutes (and who has actually started several times) to be a guy asking for a transfer. This isn't a Dantley Walker type of situation. What exactly is it about this team that is making him unhappy?

But then again maybe I shouldn't be so surprised after what happened with Katin Reinhart.

Not all that surprising... seems like a good kid but clearly getting outplayed on every level of the game by others. I'm trying to figure out how he was rated so high coming out of high school. Seems more like a long term project to me. For a guy who is 6'11 he had no clue how to rebound and had zero post game, make that negative post game since he mostly missed and when fouled he couldn't make his FT's ending up in what basically amounts to a turn over. While I'm never happy to see anyone leaving the program, I'm not all that upset about this one. Like others have said, what happened to earning your minutes and challenging yourself to improve. The worst part about GO leaving is maybe we aren't as deep as we'd like to be, especially up front. Maybe now Green gets more run.

Can't confirm this but some talk he missed home.

Mogan and Carter were going to continue to eat into his minutes.

What hurt him most is this. He was one of the best interior defenders we had, but you couldn't have him on the floor late in close games. His free throw shooting was a huge liability. Morgan has more offensive upside. Carter, may not be as athletic or as good of a shot blocker but is a solid post defender and a better offensive game.

His loss sucks but not all that surprising.

As bad as this will sound, of the 9 or 10 guys who we knew were gonna play significant roles, he is probably the one they could most afford to lose. With Zimm, Carter and Morgan already in place for this year it creates a space to give Jones more run, and next year Obekpa will step in to replace Zimm as far as a Center type goes and play along side Carter and Morgan in 2016.

But I wish him the best, wherever he ends up.

One last note on this, you can't question Goodluck or any other players work ethic or reasons for transferring in one breath and then praise a guy like Ben for what he brings to our team.

Sucks he is leaving but it isn't like we haven't been the other side of it as well with Carter and Moser etc.

Also with our depth/talent the Rebs can go small a lot with only one true 'big' on the court.

Savon kind of had to transfer... he didn't exactly have best circumstances here, being arrested will do that.. not same. Its frustrating for a "team" guy to all of a sudden be a me guy.. bet he ends up on a team from Maui.. wouldn't shock me

In the Indiana game thread, my comment was: "However, when okonoboh makes up his mind to make a move and shoot, it's pretty much the same as a turn over."

His effort was good, so good luck to him. However, I was in full agreement with his diminished playing time. There may be a game or two where this hurts us due to foul trouble or something, but I don't see this as a bad thing for the team.

Savon doesn't seem to be doing too bad. Just sayin.

Neither do I, considering you could see his role was diminishing.

I know his minutes were down due to his poor production ,but man I Don't understand this choice one bit, wish him the best though, wherever he lands... Hope he can work on his free throws and offensive game at his new school

Look, I wish him luck, (pun not intended) but he has been non-existant all season so far. The deep down under the basket dribble was killing me. Dude, they handed you the ball. Go up strong. At the very least you get a foul. Yeah, you can't hit the broad side of a barn when you shoot freethrows, but you take a tick against the other team. Bigger picture.

I wish him the best, and hope he ends up with a good team that uses his talents. I hope we play them, we win, but he has a career night. This is one that hurts. Maybe not in the stats, or the production. But he is a good kid. He doesn't deserve any vitriol at all.

Katin is really the only one I can think of that transferred for "greener Grass" ... Yeah how did that work out for him. I guess Meech maybe, but he too was a 4 yr project player.. Otherwise, Moser peaked here, BDJ- not exactly an ideal team mate...

My take:
Katin- not a Rebel. Not a bit. His one season should be wiped from history.

Meech- not a Rebel. Totally insignificant and ran his mouth on the way out. He's where he belongs.

Savon- Rebel, forced to leave following a regrettable off court mistake. Sad tale of a wasted Rebel career. I root for him to succeed down south.

Moser- Rebel. Moser played his heart out here but the roster outgrew him by the end of his eligibility. Went home for more minutes in his last year, left the conference. No hard feelings at all.

BDJ- Rebel, Grad. He was too significant for too long not to be called a Rebel. That said, he was probably my least favorite Rebel in recent memory. His attitude killed him here, just like everywhere else he's been. For my money he's the cautionary tale about how a transfer can both help, and hurt.

Goodluck- Rebel. He came here and gave it his all, but ultimately couldn't develop the game he needed to continue on. If he felt he had no path back to starting, I think it's really hard to blame him for leaving now. What happened to Moser also happened to Goodluck, albeit sooner. I wish him the best, and hope he transfers back east. I'll be rooting for him.
