But still, we probably won't keep up that shooting so we have to keep going to the post.

I am sure we will have a less than stellar second half and this place will be filled with negative comments like, we can't keep up the pressure, we always let the other team back in it, we have no heart, etc.

Then it will be Rice's fault somehow, completely ignoring the fact that there is another team out there that made a reputation for staying in games and coming back.

Our shooting made us look better than we were in all honesty. We need to get offense from our defense.

I think people got caught up with the hype(myself included) that this team was good enough to be a top 15 team but games against Wichita St., ASU, and Arizona showed we aren't close. It also threatened to be a repeat of Rice's 1st 3 teams where they tear off to a great start only to become WORSE as the season dragged on. I'd say the fans are just behaving like normal people and don't want to get overly invested in a team until they can be somewhat assured they aren't going to completely implode in February as in years past. And finally, it's South Dakota St. This was a nice win after a pretty lame 2 weeks but don't expect fans to treat it like a road win against a top 5 ranked Duke team. They're reserved and they have every right to be. This isn't a Tark or even a Kruger team where a bad loss at home to an under-manned ASU team could be treated as a fluke. Most still have serious doubts about Rice and it's going to take a lot for him to reshape the reputation he's made for himself.

There was nothing wrong with the Arizona game especially. I would say the same about Witchita but I see why some people have doubts.

I don't think they are behaving like normal people at all. Being overly emotional and critical of your team is understandable in the heat of the moment, I am guilty of it. This isn't that. This is looking for and trying to find something to complain about days later.

Most importantly, fans dont come around to complain after a bad game and disappear after a good one. I don't know what you call that, but it isn't being loyal fan.

Ah, there is that press!! All those points and no one had 20 - great disturbtion of points. Tough schedule in the OOC, could have really used that win against ASU- oh well, onto conference. I will be shocked if the Rebels don't win the MWC regular and tourney this season. Put your nose down, every game is huge, keep working that press and sharing the ball inside-out; and grab a very winnable MWC championship(s).

I know some locals on this board that bitch and complain about loyal fans but make no effort to get out to the Mack. Damn place is near empty compared to what it was a few season ago....get off your butt buy some end zone seats upstairs and find a soft landing in the lower bowl. It's getting embarrassing how many empty seats there are in the home arena.

Love this thread. Agree with Florian, luver, Joe... Fun win last night.

Owning the mountain is what matters now. This team could still be pretty special.

I get it. I just don't think this team bears much in common with any of those three teams you reference, save the head coach. It's almost an entirely different group of players and coaches involved now.

Perhaps it's easier to allow myself to believe in this years team because I can let the disappointments of the last two seasons go? Easier for some than others I suppose. To each their own.

I think the Rebels will improve as the season goes along this year because I think this group of players is better, and this coaching staff as a whole is better than any CDR season prior. I hope I'm right. We'll see.

Fun game, good win. It's also South Dakota who sits almost last in the Summit League...

Honestly, if they lost that game I don't think I'd watch another game until next season... So there's your bitching after a win.

big blow out....crickets, that's all, just crickets.

to all you losers, bitchers, and whiners....Merry Christmas, sorry we won big.

You are the Andy Kaufman of these message boards. Which makes me hesitant to 'like' any of your posts, because I can't determine if you are certifiably insane or a genius.

I will risk it here....

I actually thought the UofA game was one of Dave's best coaching jobs despite the loss. I thought he made some nice adjustments throughout the game. He gave UofA some zone looks, came back and used the press later in the game. Considering the disparity in the fouts (not using officials as an excuse it happens) he did a pretty good job managing foul trouble. He called a couple of timeouts to try and slow UofA runs. He showed some of that 'fire' people have been asking for when he got T'd up. Showed some more 'fire and emotion' when he got in a couple of guys grills during the game. And he adjusted to not having Zimm for almost 3/4 of the game. Coming off the ASU debacle I thought it was a good showing by both players and coaches.

Rice has evolved as a head coach. Anyone who says that it's all the same just isn't paying attention.

He got a technical the other night. He's been seen getting up in the faces of his players when they needed it. I'm sure there's much more of that behind closed doors.

In his first few seasons he seemed reluctant to do those things. I hate to keep harping on Lon Kruger comparisons, but he was criticized on this board for a dispassionate style as well. Neither Dave, nor Lon are Frank Martin or Bob Knight-types. If you think that's necessary for a HC you'll never be satisfied with the current coach. Personally I prefer a more controlled approach. I don't recall Coach K or Izzo throwing any chairs. So you can win without abusing your players.

For all but one dreadful half, Rice and his staff have handled this team well. Suggesting that the Wichita or Arizona games proved that we're not ready for national prominence is just plain false. The Rebels competed well in both games, while playing at venues that have seen extraordinarily long home win streaks. A couple of bounces goimg our way, or an even-handed performance by the refs, and the Wichita game especially could have gone the other way.

How 'bout waiting for the conference slate to unfold before pulling out shovels to dig the grave of Dave Rice.

Great post by TarkisGod. The 2nd half collapse v ASU is the only real letdown thus far in the season. We have the potential to win 25 games, finish with a top 50 RPI and potentially two wins against ranked teams. That is a resume that will get us in. Hang in there folks
