This team is the most fun that we have had in years to watch. No prima donnas, no entitled 5 stars, 3 Vegas kids, and a cast of bring your lunch pail to work kind of guys. Gritty performance tonight by the Rebs, The Lobos threw every kind of defense they had at them, 2=3, 2-1-2, trapping the wings, man to man, full court zone, full court man and the Rebels shredded it all night long. Menzies had them ready to go tonight no matter what came their way. Both teams came out a little too tight tonight as they both knew the importance for their respective teams.

We have a guy for the first time since I don't know when that I feel good about with the ball in his hands to go get a shot and that is Hardy. I have yet to see someone that can stay in front of him all year and he is maturing game by game. Robo totally shut down Mattis again tonight, TW brought some game tonight and Blair was off the charts, The Vegas kids rocked the Mack.

I really like what Menzies is doing here, the guys have to earn their spot, they have to play hard all the time, they have to be good teammates and they have to be good students both in the classroom and in practice.

So you haters can keep ragging on Menzies, the SOS, The conference, the team we played or you can get your butts into the seats at the T&M and enjoy some Rebel Hoops.

and a 1-3-1

It's not hard to look good when you play awful teams. If we can win the next 2 out of 3 games, than I will be impressed.

I'm with Pistol Pete 1 . We finally have a coach who is recruiting players , treating them like family, and they are not leaving after 1 year because they didn't get the amount of playing time they thought they should or they weren't the focal point of the offense.

All of the guys he recruited in his first year here have been given the opportunity to keep there scholarships and he hasn't discarded them for new flashier players. Finally someone who is willing to do it the right way even if it doesn't fall within the fan's win now mentality.

We have Joel Ntabwe coming back for 3 more years and Mbacke Diong for 2 more years. Please tell me how those are not pieces you can build around.

I agree that this is the best group of players we've had in a while in terms of character and grit. They are fun to root for and regardless of what happens the rest of the season, they will play hard every game.

Now I am very, very curious to see if Blair's game last night was totally anomalous, or does it reflect his new persona.

I forgot to mention one thing about this team and it is something that has been missing since Kruger left town and that is toughness. These guys are tough. They may not win them all and they may not win half of them from here on out but they are tough. Rice's team's were a bunch of pu$$ies and could be pushed around by anybody. Only exception to that was his first year when he had Kruger's recruits that had been taught how to play the game.

The team is (finally) getting wins at home. The road will be another story as we saw with the team losing to lowly Air Force.

Rice's team is a bunch of pussies? How many top 25 teams did Rice's teams won over vs Mensiez? How many did Mensiez teams won vs top 25 teams?

No I don’t want to shut up, Rice’s teams were extremely talented but extremely soft. Just passing through to the NBA. So you might want to tell John Sandler & Robert Smith to shut up as well because they made the point that this team is tough, something we haven’t seen in years and it’s great to see this toughness.

Talent doesn’t equate to toughness. If your not tough in my mind your a puss. Maybe you don’t like my definition of pu$$y. Would you like it better if I said they were soft?

The program eroded under Rice. I'm no Menzies fan, but the reason the program is where it is, is because of Rice. He is the worst unlv basketball coach since pre-Tark.

The state of mens basketball when Menzies took over was not the fault of Dave Rice. He was fired in the middle of the season without the administration having a plan for his replacement.
The players and coaches were all planning their exit strategies midway through the season because of the timing of when they fired DR.

Except he could recruit and he could beat top teams. Obviously struggled in conference. But he had us beating ranked opponents, got ranked, got to two tournaments, yes, one was Kruger’s roster but the second year was heavily Rice guys. Rollie has plenty of talent after Tark with Tark guys and went to the NIT.

Rice May have not won enough, but he didn’t fire himself midseason with no plan, a captainless ship, a terrible search and hire mission, a botched hire and player defections. That all came after he departed. You can’t retain players when it takes so long to hire somebody and that hire runs off a couple and the players, who were without direction and being locked out of Mendhenhall to play, got sick and tired of hanging on and they left - Rice was gone. Terrible planning and execution left MM with scraps.

Tina and the three egomaniacal clowns that love credit but run from blame had the heaviest hand in the mess that was created.

Today is Thursday, January 29, 2019. We can bemoan and argue and deride how we got here, but here we are. It would be nice to keep the comments to today's team without having to blame A or B or C for the current situation, which is probably better than some of you the think and worse than others of you think.

Harping on how unlv got to this moment in its storied b-ball history, for me, is irrelevant, and worse yet, divisive.

As of this moment, UNLV is doing okay. A win Saturday in SD would be a big plus, a loss would not be the end of the world.

Honestly, what the F**K are you talking about? "Most fun to watch"??! I seriously didnt even get past your first sentence without having the overwhelming feeling to reply..and I NEVER post anymore.

Um...WHAT?! Honestly, what the hell is going on in this thread?! Kruger's teams were some of the TOUGHEST teams post-Tark.
We are a tough team. Last night We cut a 25 point deficit to 14. And Sucknell was up 38 but we cut that to 25. I think SDSU was beating us by 20-something and we fought back and cut it to 18. We also battled LMU tooth and nail before they put the game away at the Mack with a 16-2 run, or something like that. We battled vs CSU and won the game with a goaltend at the buzzer. Pure fight. We threw our best shot at Air Force and fought to the tune of 50% three pointers, pay no attention that we gave up 106 points. We were tough against Valpo at the Mack but got some tough breaks before they broke away from us.

You know, tough. We are.

If you read the statement as written it implies that Kruger’s teams were tough. They haven’t been tough since. CMM has some guys in here now that are tough and play hard but we still need more talent on the roster. I loved Kruger’s team idenity. Tough and hard nosed. I like many felt he didn’t recruit the best players he could get here.

About the same time that the AD better be doing their job of finding a new basketball coach. Even the players have quite playing for coach Menzies.

Rice Ball is way better than this crap

I thought this was going to be a positive thread. I can be yelly and angry too.

You wanna know what I'm pissed about? No more ketchup and mustard Pump dispensers. Only the cheap packets! I want real condiments dammit!

Let's not forget chopped onions and relish as well. The more they try to save money with concessions the more money they lose with lose of sales.

PP were your great great grandparents ticket seller for the Titanic?
Cuz this thread sure Sunk and died.
It was dead before it was started. Let me check the start date - yep, Jan 22nd. The end started in November. Originally said stop complaining about SOS, the conference sucking, happy with where we were at....

All those things were directly related to the reason it was decided to let him go months ago.... before he started the thread.

But if he was happy with the direction on Jan 22, he’s going to be downright giddy soon.
