Today was in shells. This will be a little different write up, but a couple interesting wrinkles were added.

Qb-Stanton took the first snaps with the ones today. Palandech had a pick, but also had a couple nice throws. Stanton looks really good on the zone read play.

WR- With Boyd slowed by injury early on, Darren Woods has arguably been the best WR in camp and that continued today. More info on Woods later in recap.

DL-Alo-Wily,Fao and Zepeda had some nice moments in 1v1 and combo drills vs the offensive line.

New wrinkles...

Not sure if this is something we will see on defense or if this was to give the offense a different look, but we ran quite a bit of 3-4 today. The front 7 was..

DE-Zepeda DT-Hughes DE-Alo-Wily
WOLB-Vaolaga ILB-McAleenan ILB-Keyes SOLB-Tau L. Laolagi and McCoy also in the mix.

Not suggesting we are switching over to a 3-4 but we may see it a little bit this year.

@RebelinWA and I spoke to Zach Singer after practice. He expects to be a full go for fall camp. He also said he expects to be competing for the LG spot. He said guys on both sides are way ahead of last year. Depth is way better than in years past. This somewhat confirms what I thought at the start of camp in regards to the offensive line. From left to right, Saxelid, Singer, Kreitler, Polu, and Jacobson.

We asked Zach who the fastest player on the team was. We assumed Lexington Thomas, he said maybe, but Darren Woods is really fast and holds his own with anybody.

Spoke to an assistant coach from a school that is in the same league as Mater Dei and Bishop Amat. Asked if he knew anything about Matt Brayton the offensive linemen we have coming in. He said the kid is very very good and athletic. Said he was especially good in space and pulling.

Fao was effective at nose in a 3-4, on a play he absolutely destroyed Krietler (who miss stepped to try to block Wily) and Howard to crush Palandech. When properly motivated, Fao is a mad force of destructive raw energy. Palandech got yelled at once. He caught the hike, spun in a 360, then tripped and fell on his face/ lost the ball. Other than that, he had a pretty decent day. I liked the looks that the defense gave us at a 3-4 set up, but we lack the depth to sustain it long term. This was a defense day, they dominated the field, save for a couple of good passes sporadically.

In terms of kickers, that place kicker from the Congo is a little bad @ss. The ball only goes 40 yards, but its in a straight line. He's the only one I watched. 5'4 and 90 pounds of nothing and still not afraid of roaring at the bigger fish.

I get more excited with everyone of these updates you gentlemen post. Can't wait for the season to start.
Maybe the Rebs should hire you as scouts or at least the marketing department.
Thank you for your time and effort!!

As Bull noted the guys were in shells today. Little to no contact was going on so everything needs to be taken with a grain of salt as to who is really looking sharp out there. I think this particular practice emphasizes that the coaches are pleased with the progress that the guys are making. Most of the day was spent working through technique drills. The RB's were working some pass protection drills on the sled that I haven't seen any of our previous coaches use.
I agree with Bull in that the QB battle has taken a turn. Stanton now appears to be the guy. The separation occurred in the practice on Wednesday. Look for some 2 RB sets this fall and I am not talking about a RB and a FB. Coaches know they need to find a way to get more play makers on the field. Rebel Wa and I are both loving that Cui. Kid is tough and has great hands. Also I can't see Green not finding his way onto the field more often this year. Excellent on Special teams and is just a hard runner.
It was a beautiful day out there talking Rebel Sports with Bull, Rebel Wa and 1 other guy (forgot his name).

@Pistol Pete 1 brought up a good point and player in David Green.

Green has had a nice camp. He will be 4th on depth chart at RB, but will be a big time contributer on special teams. Keep an eye on 22 in kick coverage this fall.

FYI, Mater Dei and Bishop Amat are not in the same league. My son played with Johnny Stanton at Santa Margarita. We were in the Trinity League with Mater Dei. We played Bishop Amat in the preseason, but they were not in our league.

My fault. This was what this gentlemen expressed to me. I may have misunderstood, he was however familiar with the player.
