Tonight we visit Fresno St. this will be a true test of our road warrior credentials. The Bulldogs are 14-6, and 4-3 in conference play. They face us off of a virtual bye, having played their last game on Wed 1/17. That was an upset victory at San Diego St. so this won’t be a weak San Jose St or Air Force. If we can defeat them at their home court, then we will actually have something.
Of course, win or lose, we still need to find a way to shore up our ability to defend our house. We’ve got to find the way to be strong in the closing moments, when contested games are decided. That was something, road or home, which had eluded us until the sensational 14-0 run at Colorado St.
Maybe that inner strength has finally emerged. If so, we may be in for an exciting ride to the finish. But, I know, we’ve all bought into the notion that the Rebels were going to be great, only to have our hopes dashed by another disappointing outcome.
However, Don Quixote that I am, I will continue to tilt at these windmills. One day my Rebels will defeat those giants. Apologies for the literary reference. It’s out of place on a basketball board, but I’m feeling bookish today.
To issues of greater importance: The Rebels are 4.5-point underdogs tonight. The total is 154.5.
Additionally, of the three losses that Fresno endured in conference play, one was a 2-point loss at Utah St., but the expected ones, vs North Nowhere U. and Boise were both games in which they were held to 65 and 64 points, respectively. I don’t know if our boys are capable of playing the type of defense to hold them down to that kind of low score, but it seems to be the formula for beating them.
Go Rebels!
