Fall camp is starting up soon. I wonder who the starting QB is going to be. We have three good QB’s.

I would really prefer we settle on one, clear starter this season.

But I have a feeling it’s going to be undecided throughout the entire camp. I could even see all 3 playing in the first game (hopefully not)

Man I hope not, Arroyo has to start showing some coaching chops sooner or later. As the other threads mention, we need some improved football around here, conference realignment is at stake for crying out loud!

Fall camp is starting July 30th. The earliest it’s ever started.

I’m glad they don’t go to Ely anymore. It was so much work packing everything to go up there. It was a nightmare every year. Cool little town though.

They typically getting a limited number of practices at the stadium, but I am not sure how many they are allowed, or how that was worked out.

Usually I beleive if you have 2 ( or 3) QBs, it means you don't have one.

Though, I truly believe we have 3 very good QB options. That being said, I think the less time is shared at the position the more likely we will be successful. They do have different strengths and likely will have some wrinkles in the playbook for them, so the more consistent the better.

Say Bailey and Brumfield are 1-2...

I would not be surprised to see Friel transfer out.

Perhaps after the season.

However if trend of this recent decade continues to be true, our guys will get hurt and it is possible all will play. Again.

I really hope that doesn't happen.

I just can't see him staring at the possibility of sitting for three years if he feels like he could start somewhere else (Hawaii?)

For sure.
And for the record I do think he is mostly likely option #3 right now.
I think the writing was on the wall once they got Bailey that he would at least be a back up.
But he decided to stay, I expected him to leave, but didn't. Not sure why, maybe he wants one more camp and season to prove himself? Maybe he likes Vegas, likes the QB room, and is willing to sit with a chance to compete as an upper classman? QBs are known to do that, it wasn't that long ago where that was the norm.

But we aren't even talking about Maiava or some of the other QB recruits, which many of them also have promise or were highly rated.

You'd think someone will be leaving.

The RB spot has me concerned. Any thought???
All are unproven. I want to be optimistic that Robbins will be good. I think CMA will be counting on him.

I also would love to see something out of Wilson, but he doesn’t appear to be making a dent on the depth chart, at least not yet.

Offensive line and running backs are a main question mark also. I agree with those posts.

Ideally, I think we should redshirt Friel…

I’m rolling with the Dark Horse, Brumfield
Redshirting Friel would be great if he is cool with it. Brumfield or Bailey, I'm good either way... ideally it isn't even close and we can have a guy who is "the guy"

Who starts at QB may have a lot to do with how the running backs shape up. If we don't have a satisfactory running game it may force Arroyo to go with Brumfield to assist there as that is his best skill set. If our running game is decent to good there is no doubt in my mind that Bailey is the guy and Friehl the possible #2.

In this day and age, I wouldn’t redshirt anyone since they can all leave your program tomorrow. Sure, if we are three deep ahead of them then there’s nothing to lose. If he may play then I’d keep him active.
Guys playing 5 years at UNLV will be the rare exception going forward. If they can help contribute at all year 1 (even special teams) I’d play them. In this new era of college free agency there’s no guarantee they’ll be there next year let alone 5 years from now.

Ideally, Friel or Brum need to sit a year if Bailey is that good. That is how you sustain the program. We will wait and see how Bailey perform on the field. Brum and Friel have proven on the field, we have not seen Bailey. I still think Brum is #1 and Friel is #2 but we will see. Brum is like a ginger bread man. So fragile.

A quarterback doesn’t transfer from SEC Tennessee Vols to UNLV to sit the bench. Come on, Bailey is the guy and it’s not even close...and if it is we are in more trouble than we thought.

Usually we are in as much trouble as we know we’re in….it’s just some have a harder time reading the more candid thoughts….I prefer bluntness myself

Harrison Bailey was the #3 pro style qb in the country when he came out of hs 2020 class. Imo if it's close he starts. He has the kind of talent we're not used to here. We need to give him every opportunity to show it.
I hear that and even agree but it all depends on the O-line. It doesn’t matter if he’s Manning as an “arm” talent, the lineman upfront are critical to him standing and delivering or being on his wallet and carried off the field. I hope everything comes together this year because if not realignment for us is the Big Sky conference!

You cannot throw from your back...

Take Friel last year. Considering mo football his senior year, limited reps with first team in camp, he performed admirably.. And that was behind poor offensive line play. Better O-Line play and you could probably flip 2 or 3 of those one score losses.

If you can't protect or get after the QB you will struggle in todays football.
