I would not be heartbroken if I never see another fake FG at UNLV again.

The fake field goals really should end because they don't work and they also reek of desperation. Every time they fail they basically make you look silly and incompetent versus just letting the offense line up again to go for it on 4th down.

In most cases you always should kick the FG and grab the 3 points, but if kicking it isn't enough, then keep the offense on the field with the intent and go for it that way with a better play and with better personnel. There's nothing wrong with running a regular play in attempt to get a 1st down or score a TD instead of a FG if that is the intent. Just my perspective.

Yeah I didnt like that call. Could have been on the board and the game at 10-3. Not a bad place to be considering that was our best drive to that point.

At the time it happened I couldnt tell if it was a designed fake or bad snap.

Was it in fact a fake FG? I couldnt tell if it was a bad snap or not. There didnt look like there was anybody running any routes.

But I agree I could do without seeing them for awhile.

Haunted by the ghost of Bobby Hauck there. Mike Sanford's ghost made an appearance on the rugby style punt that was blocked.

Great job by the defense to hold them to an fg there.

During the actual game I was hoping it was a botched snap because I couldn't clearly tell either and I couldn't understand why anyone would attempt to fake that scoring opportunity. But then in the postgame press conference Sanchez acknowledged it and he said "in these first couple of games we're going to take some risks". I watched the game recording after I got home to get a better look and sure enough they tried to fake it.

Bad call by Sanchez. My hope is in that scenario he'll kick that every time in the future. But if you do choose to risk it, I would much rather do it with the offensive personnel instead of the FG unit.

Only seeing it live (maybe on tape it looked better?) to me it looked like possibly the worst executed fake FG attempt that I have ever seen. it looked like it wasnt planned it was that bad, but as Sanchez acknowledged it was a designed play.

I agree I would rather see guys used to throwing the ball or running in there trying to pick up a first down.

That said credit to UCLA reading it and blowing the play up before it could even develop.

In practice, the fake punts involved Palandech as set up, then taking the ball and either running it or throwing. It seemed to work quite well with Palandech.
