Caleb Grill was an Otz recruit to South Dakota State. Otz hoped Grill would come to Las Vegas. He was the top OTZ recruit and many on this board were waiting on the kid's decision with baited breath. He was never seen as a player that could carry a team but as a player who could make a difference. In the end he went to Iowa State and has been mostly forgotten.
So, how has Otz top recruit doing at Iowa State? He is playing, but not too well and certainly not at a rate that would make a difference on most any D1 team. Admittedly, he's playing with a power 5 team that has more talent and plays against more difficult competition. He may be the kind of player that blossoms as he ages in the program - or he may not.
He's playing 10 min a game (8 min average over the past 8 games) - shooting 31% ( 22% from three) - 57% free throws - more personal fouls that assists - nearly as many turnover as assists.
There is a division on this board about OTZ recruiting. Some look at the rating services review of our incoming class and are very hopeful. Others have seen many of the players close up at games or in full film of games and aren't so impressed.
