DM to Alabama?

He was terrible in the MW, how does anyone think he can survive in the SEC.

I’ve said this before but I think we tend to severely underestimate our own players. It’s not an issue with the players themselves. I feel it’s been an issue with roster construction. Not just under Kevin. David is not good enough to be a starter on a competitive team. We tried to make him a starter when he shouldn’t be. Or at the very least he should be complimented with a scoring PF. David could put in a good 10-15 minutes on a very competitive team off the bench as long as he’s surrounded with good pieces. With the way our team is constructed currently I would take him back in a heart beat. We placed too much on his shoulders. He was playing a role in which the expectations were unachievable. Not to say he will end up Alabama but I totally see the value in him as a bench big.

Don’t know if underestimate is the right word. Maybe we over-attributed expectations.

I don’t think the guy is good enough to be a starter or get starter minutes on a top 150 team. I’d have zero problem with him grabbing 10-15 in a backup role.

But with our roster construction of the past half dozen years, our entire starting lineup consisted of guys that should have been 6 to 11 on the totem pole. We have the bench starting and then we have walkon quality being the bench itself. You need to fill 1-13 as 1-13, not 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 13, 13, 13.

I agree with you. I say underestimate as a fan base because we see these guys transfer and tend to say that they suck or whatever it may be but we as a team have just been awful about building teams that compliment each player. There is no way David is ever going to be a fantastic player, but you put him in the right situation and he can thrive… most likely off the bench, but still. He’s got value.

And you’re absolutely right, we’ve had way too many bench guys playing starting roles. That’s what excites me about this years team. I’m cautious like most because we get let down consistently, but the construction of this roster feels more sound that it has been in quite a while.

I agree that this year does look different on paper. A lot different. If the chemistry is where it needs to be and they are on the same page, it could be a good year.

But we’ve had more talent than this where the chemistry and unity isn’t where it needs to be and we’ve struggled. Everything is cookies and cream on day one … family … but you gotta wait until minutes and roles are doled out to find out the truth with that.

If there wasn't a 13-player limit every team would have a dozen backup big men. You need to be able to throw in a big body when some is in foul trouble, hurt, sick etc. This is the role Muoka will fill.

That would never happen because players want to play.

Muoka is a pretty good player. He is limited, but he is not as worthless as people think here. Last year he had a rough stretch when he lost his starting spot, but then bounced back and may have led our team in plus/minus for a few games later in the season.

A couple of things that went against him. The fact that we had no scoring low post presence hurt him. If we had scoring low post 4 I think he becomes more effective. He is a decent clean up player and can be a good lob threat.

The switching defense also hurt, and before that the match up zone tends to hurt rebounding numbers.

But he has good length and athleticism, and is a better than average defender. In the right situation I think he can be a pretty good player even a starter.

Actually he would fit in better here next season given having more scoring threats at 4 next to him (wouldn't start though).

It's all good replacing him with a younger bench big is probably the best considering we need more carryover players for '24. Having yet another 1 year player would make us a bit better next season, but someone that can provide depth, learn, and become more of an impact next season is better long term.
