It’s also crazy how those same talented guys struggled against MWC teams, did not come close to winning the regular season crown, a MWC tournament or an NCAA tournament game.

But hey he could recruit though!

Different time and league, imo. Just saw that Jimmer threw down 75 points in a game in the Philippines or Taiwan the other night.

Big part of it, recruiting.

DJ was one of those guys like Marion. Rarely call a play, maybe back screen for a lob … most of it was, somebody else is probably going to shoot it, find a gap and go get it, make something happen. Couldn’t shoot it back then, but defended, crazy athletic, great on the break. Pretty “limited” offensively, but had enough versatility to be valuable.

That’s what we are missing with nearly all our players. Ability to do more than one thing well.

Crazy how Rice’s guys are still throwing down in the NBA.

I used to think that but then I see a guy like Bronny taking up a seat on the laker bench and Jimmer is better than him.

I don’t follow the nba hardcore since the mid 2000s but I’m assuming the product has gone downhill because GMs are just putting shooters on their roster, and from the highlights I’ve seen, it’s just guys running back and forth shooting from the arc. Maybe Jimmer is too slow but he can sure shoot.

We fired Rice so we could get guys like Brandon McCoy..

That guy had ability. Was not a a walking stiff, but at the time i was convinced that if i punched him in the face he might cry. Was as soft as they come. Either that or he was about as interested in CBB as i am on learning how to knit.

Not saying Lon was Tark, but Rice following LKs success didn’t help his cause. Had MM been the coach to follow LK, and then Dave he may still be here.
That’s a good point. Recency bias is strong with fans, what the most recent guy did is usually the bar you’re held against. Rollie was destined for failure. It didn’t matter that he was a bad fit and crappy person, that he followed Tark immediately made it impossible for him. Rollie would have been “fine” following Bayno, for example.

If Tark is the bar for every coach, we will always “lose”.
