Total Defense #59
Red Zone Defense #20
Rush Defense #28
Scoring defense #58 (22.5 pg)
3rd Down Conversion #20

Rank in the top 50 in a number of other stats. (I got lazy stopped looking)

I think the ones that stand out most are Red zone defense and 3rd down conversions against.

Get them off the field.

And if they do put a drive together, hold them to 3s.

It's about to get a lot tougher. But it's been a good start so far, and the defense looks like it's no longer the liability it's been the past decade plus...

Here's an idea...

Shut your pie hole about the portal! You jinxer!
Dude, relax. I was talking about an interdimensional portal. ;)

UNLV has always been able to get teams to 3rd down…just never off the field and a 4th and less than 4 was an automatic 1st down. This year’s D is totally a different story.

This should really help Recruiting as it shows we have very good coaches that know how to develop talent.

I think Arroyo obviously deserves credit for what we are possibly seeing unfold.

What I don't think is getting talked up enough, is the job the assistants are doing in developing guys and game planning.

And the staff Arroyo has put together. Last year there were some signs things were starting to head in the right direction. Especially defensively. When we lost our DC I was worried. Heyward has been excellent thus far.

I was bummed we lost Hansen. I thought he did a great job. Though Heyward may be doing better. He has a bit more overall talent and depth, though lost arguably the best 2 players coming in to this season.
The staff is clicking. Apparently Heyward was Arroyo's first choice when taking the UNLV ( not sure if for DC or not, but he was asked to be on his staff). Im glad he accepted this time.
Also Holz seems to be clicking with what Arroyo is trying to do. Hearing Tom Herman talking about how much our offense reminds him of a pro offense. Can't help but think of Holz's fingerprints on this team.

The second half adjustments on defense
,.. and offense, have to be the best we have seen in two decades!
I see these young men plaing with unity and guts, that’s what turns a program.

How many times under Sanchez/Hauck did it feel like we had games where it was like 17-14 other team going into half. You felt like YEAH! We are in this game. Opponent gets 2nd half kickoff and scores. Scores again...And you get the picture. We end up getting our doors blown off 42-17...

I remember specifically under Sanchez you could feel when the tide would turn in a game. Wasn't always giving up a score..Something as small as a 3rd down conversion and you could feel the wheels coming off. Game was still close but you just knew where it was headed.

Haven't got that feeling once this year. Even down 17 to UNM, I just felt like they needed to reset and they'd be ok..
