Dave Rice to Reno?

I have a bad feeling that Dave Rice is about to be announced as a new assistant coach up North. Wow, UNLV really broke him so he punishes himself by going to Reno. He probably figures Musselman will be gone soon so he can be HC there soon. I hope I'm wrong but Reno press is pimping a big announcement and Rice was just up there for 2 days.

Great move. Muss will only be there for 1-2 more years. His next stop will be a much bigger conf/school. Rice can go with him. Plus, he's an x and o guy. Something Rice lacks in spades. Shocked UNLV never considered poaching him. Seemed like a no brainier to me. As much as everyone hates Reno, they will be a force next year.

With Muss and Rice and the upgrade in talent from them they fUNR will become much better overall. I'm actually not against him at UNR even if they are the rival. It's a job and close to home. Rice will make one HELL of an assistant again (esp after the exp he has from the last few years). I think we just got him a few years too early.

I'm not sure that its in Rice's DNA to be a leader/motivator. Nothing wrong with that - there are plenty of examples of people that make greater impact as an assistant (Grg, Bayno, etc). With or without Rice, Reno is going to pwn this upcoming season(s); its gonna be a tough pill to swallow.

For those of us who moved on, it's nice to see him land on his feet. My first impression was that since he's in the University of Nevada system, does the check he is already receiving count as his pay? It seems weird that they would be paying him two ways. I always thought he would end up in one of the Utah schools. Anyway, he's a hell of a recruiter (to UNLV), and it will be interesting to track which players choose Reno over us going forward.

In fact they had negotiated a contract, told him to fly in for a presser on Monday and TKM had to call it off over the weekend. I didn't think too much about it until I saw Musselman's reaction to the win in Reno. It seemed very personal. I find it ironic, Eric may be looking for some karmonic forgiveness.

i think Rice has excellent X & O, but his lack of ability to lead is what was problematic. with Mussleman screaming what to do at everyone, i think UNR will be tough.
