Dave Rice is one incredibly smart dude ...

Gotta give CDR all the credit in the world on this one.

14 losses. No postseason. 7th place in the 11th place conference in the country. Two under-achieving seasons in a row coming off of 4 consecutive NCAA trips. Massively disappointing finish with a top 5 recruiting class and TWO McDonald's AA's in his starting lineup.

And 95% of the people here were BEGGING him to stay and bombarding his boss begging her to keep him.

And he's now done this TWO years in a row.

Amazing.

CDR plays this administration, and this fan base, like a master violinist playing a Stradivarius.

Massimino. Bayno. Spoon. Kruger. All of them had moving vans packed in front of their houses after two seasons like the past two.

Rice gets an extension AND a massive vote of confidence and embrace of enthusiasm from both the administration and the diehards.

There was no buyout. No big money boosters offering up $1.2 million to buy him out. Or to sign Ben Howland. No firing of Rice today was imminent. This was nothing but smoke and mirrors. I'm sure some influential people voiced displeasure to TKM and other higher ups about Rice and this season. But nothing close to a here's a huge check, fire him Monday.

I'm sure, however, that Rice got wind of this coming weeks if not months ago. And I give him full credit for using it to his tactical advantage.

He played this one beautifully to whip his diehard fans up into a frenzied outpouring of support for him. And it worked perfectly too.

Last year's theme was retain him and give him support, or lose him to an "offer" from USF. Never mind there was no offer from USF. The administration and supporters here played right into his hand and gave him exactly what he wanted.

End result, same season as last season.

This year, the theme was Save Ferris! Tina Kunzer Rooney and Jennifer Howland Grey are out to get him! Quick, rally, save Dave Rice! And again it worked like a charm.

Well, the Board got its wish. Again. Hopefully Big Zimm arrives with Derrick Jones, a healthy Rashard Vaughn, an improved Dwayne Morgan, and let's see if 9 four and five star talents are enough to win the MWC next season.

If not, CDR will have to come with a brand new false flag to run up the pole in 2016.
