CREIGHTON

Has there been any word on the rest of the OOC schedule? I know there's a tournament in FL, but can't remember what other games are lined up, or if they've been announced.

We will be traveling to play a tough west coast team and hosting a school from Texas. Those will be announced soon.

Also playing a return game at Dayton.

Ask me again once the summer ends and I'll have an answer! A lot can happen from now until then with grad transfer portal defections.
How about based on the teams, as currently constructed (both UNLV and opponents)?

I don't know too much about these teams, but looking briefly at their rosters and season last year, I'd say we beat Dayton (though that'll be a tough one on their home court), lose to Creighton in a mostly neutral court, lose to St. Mary's, and pull out a close one against A&M. I think any 2 wins versus these teams would be pretty solid.

Loss against Creighton. I think it'll be very high scoring, but their top 3 take over at the end and they pull away.

Dubs over Dayton and Johnny Manziel. As of today, I'd say a win over Saint Marys as well but we will barely squeak past them. One of my bestfriends went there so I've watched them over the years and attended some games. They are very disciplined and shoot the lights out, but struggle against teams that are super athletic.

Playing in Moraga is very tough though, as the crowd is basically hovering over the players. Mahoney is the key, but I think we have enough defenders to throw at him to really make him work. We win that by 5 or less.

Glad we’re playing a good opponent but it looks like another “non-season tickets” game. Getting tired of paying for season tickets + RAF only to watch mostly bad MWC teams and a couple Sister Mary of the Sacred Heart noncon games at the Mack, but then have to come out of pocket again for the games we all want to see. Sorry to be a downer on the good news.

Agree…not a season ticket holder but I see how this would be frustrating. I get the rodeo makes money for UNLV but it shouldn’t come at the expense of season ticket holders. They need to find a way to make this type of game included in the package, even if it is a voucher that you would need to redeem to get tickets since seats are not 1:1 and if you don’t do it fast enough and good seats or all seats are gone tough.

I feel like Creighton would play anywhere especially if there was a return game, but unfortunately some of these games may not get scheduled if they were at the Mack?

Totally agree unlove. Very happy to play Creighton but very tired of these bigger games not being at the T&M. We could get 14-16 thousand for that game. And a sellout when we return to Creighton. The T & M schedule is always disappointing. I did hear we might play Texas A&M there.
We always need more big games at home.
Maybe we get a few more surprises.

i dont usually shell out the extra money for UNLV events in Las Vegas, BUT this is in the Dollar Loan Center and last years game was epic. The venue is awesome - just the right size. I will be there.

Gonna get there early and get me some Lucille's across the way.

Already got rooms for the Sunshine Jam tourney.

There is no way that you'd have a 14-16k vs Creighton next season at the T&M. The local fan support even if Creighton is a top 10 team and name recognition for the casual UNLV fan is not high enough to generate that kind of gate. That would require 10,000 Creighton fans to show up, and why would we want to host a Creighton home game in our arena. I know there's a lot roster wise to look forward to, but this isn't 2010-2012 playing Arizona or Wisconsin where we draw the full 3-5k student sections and the casual fan looking to watch the big name basketball school.

Didn’t AZ come in a few years back, ranked, we had a sure fire NBA guy (that was the hype), McCoy vs his buddy Ayton. Fun game, actually, and UNLV pushed them, lost in OT. I don’t know what the true final attendance was, but it wasn’t over 10K and it was way more than half UofA fans. I’m guessing “official” might have been 13K, you know how those numbers don’t hit the reality.

Yeah, that's where my logic was... and UA is much more recognizable locally than Creighton even with Creighton potentially being top 10... our local draw just isn't there, and if it's not the 3-5k casual local "UNLV/basketball" fan along with students and season tickets holders plus a 40% or better Creighton draw, it probably doesn't break 10k

It's not likely, but it's definitely possible. If the team starts out really well, and builds some momentum, you'll get a definite bump in fan support. On top of that, I'd hope that UNLV would offer some incentives or cheap tickets to pack the mack like they have done at times in the past. Do a "white out" with free T-shirts, free admission for all Clark County teachers, first responders, etc. Do something to bring them in. Then, I'm sure there would be quite a few Creighton fans come out to Vegas also.

Kevin will be building back the fan base the same way Lon did. It takes time and playing a winning brand of basketball. Harper and the A-Dept have been making good decisions in marketing over the past 2 years. It took years to kill the program and it will takes years to rebuild it. Keep recruiting locals, keep an exciting brand of ball on the court and keep pricing family friendly. Both football and basketball could turn the corner soon.

Those will be very tough games. We will likely be 1-3 after. It will look bad for those who only look at the W/L column.

But…

This is exactly how you attract more talented players. They don’t want to play Life Insurance University. They want to play legit teams so that they can showcase their talents.

For fans, this will engage more of them than running wild against a St Katherine’s of the Can’t Jumps. We will be more focused and appreciate that we didn’t schedule 13-14 creampuffs to inflate our record. We can defend an 8-5, 9-4 record against this level of competition.
