Pitino was rumored to be interested in coming here.
He may have even thought about it as a fallback if Louisville didn't stick by him.
When Louisville stuck with him, he didn't look back.
While everyone here was talking Dixon and Underwood (and me still pining for Bennett), the administration had targeted a guy who seemed like he would never leave his alma mater and home town. No one in the country even seriousky thought he'd be in the job market, unless a big job like Indiana or Louisville or Ohio St magically opened.
But for some reason we chose to put on the fullcourt press with him.
What do the first part of this post and the second have in common? Pitino.
Pitino may have politely declined our overtures, maybe even before he knew he was safe at Louisville. But he may have said he knew in the DL that his former assistant Cronin might not be happy in Cincy. And maybe he told Cronin that he thought UNLV would be a good place to catapult his career to the next level.
All of this is speculation, but makes sense (at least to me.)
