College Insider-Chris Beard

Thanks, Gator. Good read. For some reason- Beard reminds me of Mike Tomlin, Steelers HC. Quality guy, hard nosed, breeds success, and good Xs n Os guy. I like the hire.

How is that any different.

I guess I don't follow. Is your point that we should be used to 5th place and not care?

I'm of the idea that the talent we have has drastically underachieved and the current incoming recruiting class is pretty damn good. I'd rather see Beard keep some of them and help them reach their potential than see the total exodus and rebuild.

If the rebuild is necessary, bring it. It's just not what I'd prefer to see is all.

Make sense?

My point is why are people concerned about the possibily of a rebuild when we essentially have been in one for the last two years.

Because they don't want to see another year as bad as the last two?

Perhaps I'm not going to understand your point. Sorry.

I pretty sure he means:
2014/15 ~ Great recruits, lots of talent ~ finished 7th
2015/16 ~ Rinse, Repeat ~ finished 6th

Q: So regardless of whether our current great recruits bail how much worse can we get?
A: Not much!

(But let's hope they stay!!!)

Ok. If so its a kinda weird point.

I've been told Chris Beard can get substantially more out of players than Dave Rice. I'm going to believe that until proven otherwise. Nothing "rinse and repeat" about returning talented, more experienced players and giving them a better coach and better system.

It's not about how much worse can we get. The answer to that question is probably not much. The reason I don't want a rebuild is because I'm tired of bad UNLV basketball. I remember good UNLV basketball and I want to see it again sooner rather than later.

I feel like that makes sense. Maybe it doesn't. I tried.

If Beard is forced to reload with Jucos and transfers for a season or two while he attempts to create an identity for the program so be it. Thats what we got out of all our 'elite' talent anyway.

Is it better if they stay, of course. Guys may perform better under a new coach/system. I just don't understand the concern about losing guys and somehow our results will be so much worse. The results weren't great with them here. Again, hope they stay and Beard can get these kids to play to their potential.

This.

How much worse could it really get?

I want guys to stay in hopes of building some stability. I want to see this get turned around as quickly as possible....That is what I hope happens.

I just don't understand people acting like it suddenly becomes a dumpster fire or a rebuild if everybody leaves. Its been bad basketball and its been a rebuild for two years now.

Its better if they stay, it just won't be much worse than its been if they leave. Just extends the rebuild timetable.

I don't care how much worse it can get I just don't want it to bad anymore. I want them to be better as quickly as possible.

That's enough, this is rediculous. Have a good evening Bull.

.

I see you just added this paragraph. Clears up the disconnect.

I agree that it's not guaranteed to be a dumpster fire if everyone leaves, I just think it bodes well for next year if some stay. I think our likelihood of a third year in a row of being bad is increased by losing guys like Pat McCaw.

It's not like we disagree on anything here, at least I don't think we do.

Same page now.

let me try to understand....

BullMastiff - doesn't care if there is a cleansing/reset, as long as we get headed in the right direction?

Mjs-702 - does not want to wait a year or 3 to get to playing good basketball because we have some pieces that would make that transition quicker?

did i win? if i did, it seems that both want the same, but one has more patience than the other. i'm in the NOW boat!!!

Beard is the right guy if you want someone focused on making it work immediately, whether it works out that way or not.
Cronin, who most were high on, was gonna take some time and he would have made that clear coming in.
