and be absolutely be prepared for both extremes on this one. That's my best piece of advice this time around.

At a P5 school, money isn't much of an issue for most schools when it comes to hiring a coach. Even some private schools are in decent shape when it comes to that.

With UNLV, it's 100% dependent upon a handful of boosters. And you guys have to please understand, some of these guys are petty and petulant. Again, I wish each would ante up what they could for a coaching fund and there was either a coach search or an adequate AD to make the call. But it doesn't work this way at UNLV.

It's very, very easy for us to spend other people's money or demand that people "do their job" and find the damn money. We can harp on that or deal with the reality of what's in front of us.

I can see this being a home run if everyone is on the same page. I can also see it being a complete dud. The problem with the former is I've yet to see enough key people on the same page in 25+ years. Sad but true. It doesn't mean it can't happen but honestly, I'd be surprised based on history and the egos we are talking about - and the overall dysfunctionality of the UNLV basketball world.

I think it's wise to also prepare yourselves for the "worst". Which would be a few hundred grand more than UNLV puts in. Which leaves you at a severe disadvantage, leaves you about the middle of the MWC pack in terms of HC salary. And for the sake of reference, that'd be a couple hundred grand less than what somebody like Gottlieb makes at CBS.

It's best to be prepared for both.
