It will be almost two weeks by the time the Board of Retards sits down to approve the contract, meanwhile how many recruits have we missed out on because we have a coach with one arm tied behind his back?

Recruiting starts tomorrow and as far as I'm aware Beard can't start recruiting kids until the ink on that contract is dry.

Makes you wonder if this isn't a deliberate slowdown to handicap the program...

Have a hard time buying this since there are quit a few UNLV Alum on the board, I think its just an overzealous process they put in place after Reno hired Musselman and needs to be revised but the process is in place, unfortunately with the unintended effects.

This is exactly why! And unfortunately, for those of you too young to remember, this is also why the BOR is so involved in coaches contracts.

The good news is Miller and the other coaches are still on contract and out there hitting the pavement (hopefully)

One of the few things they need to get right and they are screwing around. I love politics but most of the politicians in Nevada are a joke.

Little nervous that I see Ryan Miller's name floating around the South Dakota State HC job. I have seen the link on twitter and noticed Coach Miller is following the SDSU's athletic director Justin Sell's twitter account. If the BOR skrews around much longer we could lose Coach Miller.

I wish somebody could explain the logic here to me.

So they started this new process after Musselman was hired at Reno? Why?

To make sure the Massimino thing doesn't happen again 25 years later?

I just can't understand the logic here at all, especially when it makes us look so bad and I can't figure out what it accomplishes.

That's not the only job he's being considered for. I think he's gone, which is nothing out of the ordinary, most head coaches like to bring in their own guys.

I'm hearing Miller's name floating up as possibly joining the Reno staff. They just shed two coaches and they were already heavy on assistants. Might have been making room for his salary.

I sent an email to my regent and he called me within a couple hours. There is more to it than what we see including issues with our very own UNLV Pres.

Yes, the regents' panties are in a collective wad because the president doesn't communicate with them very much.

Care to elaborate? Because Jessup is a little too busy running a university to kiss their ass?

Well, there is kissing ass, and there is the requisite communication of a CEO to his board of directors to keep them apprised of operations. I listened to one of the (pro-UNLV) directors on 1100 the other day, and it sounds like Jessup is doing a poor job informing the regents. There is probably ego involved on both sides that is fannign the flames.

Considering how much Jessup has done in donations and with the business community, and how little if anything the regents have done for UNLV, who would I believe is doing their job better? Who is more likely to have Ego problems? Who is playing politics?

There is no likely relationship between fundraising and ego, unless it is fundraising fueling Jessup's ego.

The bottom line is that Jessup is not an emperor. He answers to a board and he needs to respect that, whether he likes them or not.

This deal will probably get done, because it would be political suicide for the southern regents to deny the contract, and the board is dominated 9-5 by southern regents.

Mark Anderson has been tweeting out info on how to go to the meeting or watch it online.

Apply some pressure here.

I have lived in LV long enough to know that being on the board of regents is all about their egos and very little to do with anything else. Many of those on the board of regents are using the position as a stepping stone to other positions in government. I have no doubt that Jessup has been responsive to their questions, but he is not at their beckon call 24 hours a day.

Just checked out the BOR schedule for tomorrow, here's a link to the concerns they have (I guess, I'm not pretending to be an expert on these matters). I don't see anything in there that would make me think it won't get passed, then again, i could be missing something. I attached the link below if anyone wants to check it out.

BOR Agenda

I've lived in Las Vegas since 1973. If I recall, that was before you were born.

OF COURSE the BOR have political aspirations, as does any University President. Without political ambition, he would have never achieved a presidency. There is enough hubris to go around between regents and high ranking university officials wherever you go.

The aspirations of the BOR members are what will get this hire approved, even if it's a couple minor contract adjustments that will allow them to pretend they won. Really, if you think about it, TKM and Jessup are the only ones at risk here, as the BOR will just point fingers and say they relied on the expertise of their ground leadership to make the right recommendations. I do stand by my comment that Jessup is beholden to the BOR and he needs to acknowledge that. This whole ordeal is a shot over his bow to take them seriously, and he could find himself without a contract renewal if he doesn't pay attention to it.

BOR is a formality, nothing more, nothing less. Blame these new policies for the delay, and the unreal dysfunction that is UNLV administration.

You posted a chart of only coaches that were in the dance this year, not all of the coaches.

Beard needs to have results to get to 1.4 million also and if he gets the results then we had better be ready to find more money.

Under normal circumstances, absolutely. In this case, though, all indications are that the board will approve the hire, but not without showing Jessup who's boss. You are right that the dysfunction is on UNLV's part. Jessup needs to connect with the BOR and make them look and feel involved, even if it's only perception.

I trust Jessup to do what's best for UNLV more than I do the BOR. Past UNLV presidents let the BOR run the university which lead to Reno STREALING so much of the funding that should have gone to UNLV. I'd rather have a President that pushes back a little than one who gets pushed around.

It befuddles me how a majority Clark County BOR ever let that happen, but I agree that it did. I was a UNR student when the loudest grumbling from Vegas was happening.

Bottom line, right or wrong, BOR has oversight over the University, and any University president who wages war against his regents should hopefully have his next position lined up.
