BGHS ranked #3 in preseason

They will be taking some lumps this season. A lot of previous transfers from Hawaii left to go home.
Lack of large targets in the passing game, average interior OL, back up QB Stetson Stallworth is in Yuma and they lost the really physical guys that keyed the defense.
Bingham (UT) and St John Bosco (CA) are losses. Long Beach Poly might be as well.
Biaggio Walsh is the key to a successful season but I don't see a great interior line and that will make things rough for Martell.

A little confused by part of your assessment.

First you said they will be average at the interior portion of the offensive line. Yet they have Julio Garcia who is ranked a 3 star prospect and Sione Lasike who is also ranked by Rivals as one of the top OG prospects in Nevada. (Rivals rankings not mine)

Second unless you are banking on Tate Martell getting hurt not sure why it would matter that the backup QB is in Yuma. I know injuries happen but that would be like saying the Seahawks would be my favorite to win the Super Bowl but they lost back up QB Tavaris Jackson to free agency so I gotta drop them in my rankings.

You may well be right and they may take their lumps, but it will be more to do with losing defensive talent than the other two reasons you mentioned.

Lasike is unranked. Garcia and Caldwell are high school tackles.
The team isn't as strong on the interior of thr line this year which will also reflect in preventing pressure up the middle.
If they can't keep Martell clean, having a good backup quarterback will be important versus a tough schedule.

What does that mean that Garcia and Caldwell are high school tackles? I must be missing something, do the other teams use college tackles? As for calling this team average in several areas, what is that based on? How much really information do you have on these other schools that lost to BG last year that suddenly make them better than BG this year even with BG having what may be the best QB in the country? Also, why are the national experts ranking them #3, but you show them far lower based on your local knowledge?

Will-

On the RIVALS recruiting page when you search Nevada Prep players it has a listing for each position group for college prospects.

Under OT it has Caldwell
Under OG it has 5 players listed as college prospects and while he does not have a grade, Lasike is one of the five listed by Rivals. It also has Julio Garcia listed as an OG not offensive tackle.

If you go on a couple of other sites they have Caldwell listed as an OG and Garcia OT and another site has them listed opposite.

Regardless of position you are talking about an offensive line that has two 3 star prospects. That will probably be as good as anybody else in the valley.

As for Martell and pressure. If Tate were a flat footed pocket passer I would be worried about interior pass rush. Immobile QBs hate interior pressure. They would much rather have pressure off the edge. With pressure off the edge they can still avoid the pressure by stepping up in the pocket. If the pressure is coming up the middle an immobile guy like Kurt Warner would struggle. Tate is a mobile QB who can roll out and avoid pressure.

I think a bigger issue for them than anything you mentioned would be losing two targets like Snoops kid and A. Jones. That seems like way more of a loss than the back up Qb.

It means they are listed at guard prospects but are actually tackles in high school. MaxPreps has guys with opinions but they don't seem to be eyeing football match ups. Gorman is a good football team that should take another state title but they have only been undefeated on the field twice in six years

Chandler (AZ)
Chandler features the better skill player in that game and also will break even in the trenches. 5-star WR N'Keal Harry is a legit player in a match up problem in game one with Chase Lucas as a very skilled back. Gorman is 2-3 in the Sollenberger Classic and Chandler returns a top 20 team with an edge in the athletic department.

Bingham (UT)
Bingham lost in overtime last season to the Gaels in Las Vegas on a missed field goal.
They actually had the lead going into the fourth quarter with a pretty average quarterback. This year the Gaels are on the road and Bingham upgraded at quarterback with the addition of Keaton Torre with a top 15 team. He has some good targets and a very large front line on both of the ball with Parker Workman as a very impressive pass rusher on defense. Bingham is actually expected to be a stronger team this year.

Bellevue (WA)
Gorman has the edge in this one but the Gaels will be on the road again versus a 12-1 team. Bellevue has a good line that won't be completely physically outmatched with 4-star players Brandon Wellington, Isaiah Gilchrist and Garcia leading the defense. They have a deep group of quarterbacks and Wellington is also brings skills as a running back . Bellevue actually knocked off JSerra (CA) last season 31-14, a team that only lost to Centennial (CA) 68-64 in the California playoffs. Centennial lost to Gorman 43-42 last season.

Long Beach Poly (CA)
11-2 Poly lost to California runner Centennial and then to St John Bosco (CA) in the third round of the playoffs. Another push but Poly has the athletes to be extremely competitive. 4-star Jack Jones is the primary returning playmaker but Nolan McDonald is a dual threat that will be a player to keep an eye on at quarterback. Poly developed a good amount of underclassmen last season.

Don Bosco Prep (NJ)
Bosco is large in the trenches but Gorman should be the better team but Bosco did take down Florida champ St Thomas Aquinas and Pennsylvania champ St Josephs last season. Very dangerous late season game just two games prior to the playoffs. A prep school, Bosco didn't have a loss by more than a score last season despite finishing 7-5.

Locally Gorman is the best team but Palo Verde, Centennial and Reed return some great players that should close the gap a bit more. Hard to see anyone taking the Gaels down due to the past but last season the biggest mismatch was on the edge with Lindsey mixed in as a third option to Broadus and Jones. The Gaels really lack major weapons on the edge beyond Lindsey this season.
Like Christian Lopez going from 3455-yards with 34 tds as a junior to 2081-yards 18-tds as a senior, a quarterback is only as good as his line and targets. Martell is a talented passer but he is a smaller player that has to be kept clean. Last season he had large catch radius pass catchers and a more impressive interior line, this season they have taken a significant drop at both positions though Biaggio Walsh is an outstanding talent that can be the focal point of the offense. That said, he also need the interior line to dominate if he is to find room to run.
To me, this is at least a three loss team.

All I can do is look at the ranking based on Rivals of those players that are ranked, and this is a comparison of the players for 2016. By the way, I will take a top level QB over a top level WR ten out of ten times. A great QB (BG QB is ranked a 5* on most of the rankings outside of rivals) is far more important than a top WR and that is why they are normally the team captain, and always run the teams. Based on the current player rankings, understood that many players are not ranked until late in the season, Chandler is the only team that would be on par in regards to skill with BG.

BG has 11 players listed as 3* or above
Chandler has 4 players listed as 3* or above (they have only 5* player)
Bingham has 3 players listed as 3* or above
Bellevue has 3 players listed as 3* or above
Long Beach Poly has 4 players listed as 3* or above
Don Bosco has 1 player listed as 3* or above

I didn't list anyone as 2* because most players end up as a 2* if not ranked higher by end of the season.

It is unlikely that BG will lose to a team in NV, so I am guessing that you think they will go 2-3 against these 5 teams when only one of them has comparable talent. I will wait and let the season play itself out.

Rankings and stars change. The best Gorman player for 2017 is Ali's grandson Walsh who is a 3-star followed by Bolden and Garrett. I feel its a toss up between Perry and Lindsey from there but I like Perry more.
For a smaller player, I think Lindsey appears to be at a plateau speed wise in the mid to high 4.6 at just 5'8. He is quick but really only averaged 2 receptions per game with many plays being single coverage sneaking behind the defense after a quarterback scramble. I want to see him make consistent plays in the flow of the game.
I see Martell as a Nick Patti type but actually shorter. Great skill as a passer and an impressive arm but the broken play scrambles with a weaker group of pass catcher can leave you open to big hits. His stats won't be as impressive this season due to limitations of his targets and the schedule.
If I were advising him, I would suggest taking one of the current offers on the board.

I know you know a lot about the local players, but I almost feel like you have an agenda against BG. Personally, I am not a fan of the program, but do respect how good they are. You say he should jump at and current offers he has because he will not do very well this year, Scout list him as the #7 player in the top 100. Big difference in how you look at it in comparison to the experts.

Greg Biggins is a friend and I definitely respect his opinion as well as our national guys who are outstanding.
That said, if you look through the 4 and 5 star quarterback over the last six years you will see a lot of guys that didn't develop.
Martell is a high profile guy that plays for a high profile school and takes in a lot of camps. I just see his growth potential as limited and much of last season's production due to the combination of targets and a line that kept him very clean. I love his arm and confidence but he has question marks that can see his ranking take a big drop with an average season.
