Assuming the reports are true and Chris Beard is our new coach (sorry not sorry Mjs_702), what do we know about his staff? Any insight. Do you think they keep Augmon & Miller? His Asso. HC was Wes Flanigan, he was an assistant @ Nebraska, can't get away from them I guess. :) he's a Little Rock native. Asst. coach Brian Burg, listed top Asst. coach in the MAC, Asst. Mark Adams - 23 years HC exp, came from Texas Tech Dir. of Operations, Former 2010 NJCAA coach of the year.

I think some people are assuming Augmon is even going to want to stay after its announced who the next HC is going to be. If I had to pick between Miller and Augmon, I'd have to go with Miller just for his ability to recruit. Ideally I would like them both to stay, but realistically I don't see that happening.

Augmon? Let it go, man. The Beard knows the right mix he needs to succeed. He doesn't need any assistants foisted on him.

I'm excited to see what he can do. I'm just as excited that we didn't sign Menzies, no offence to the man but this isn't a popularity contest. UNLV needs to repair it's on court reputation as well as it's off.

Thanks for the mention. I'm very hopeful Beard succeeds. Once he gets the job I'll be interested in discussing his staff. I'm sure it will be spectacular. Pulling for him.

Our AD is a blackballed laughing stock. Considering that fact CB may be the best we could have done.

Wouldn't be surprised if a few candidates (Martin, Lavin) backed off after seeing the Cronin fiasco play out

Also not hearing anything yet that Beard is definitely the guy. Could still turn into ww3 around here if we get Menzied.

Chris Beard is a rising star and I know this potential hire may not excite many right now, but give him a chance, this is a good hire that in time will be a great hire.

Totally reasonable. If he's the man I'll absolutely give him a chance. Knowing me I'll probably give him more latitude than he's earned or deserves.

There is reason to believe he can succeed. And FWIW I'm not so worried about him succeeding and leaving early. If that's the case, good problem to have. Perhaps our athletic department will be in a better place to conduct a coaching search by then.

I really hope that Stacey stays, but truthfully, I'll be very surprised if he does.

In my opinion, Lon Kruger's two greatest achievements in his tenure here were 1) Making the Rebels a tournament-level team again, and 2) Re-establishing the link between the Tark-era greats (and of course Coach Tark, himself) and present-day teams.

If passing over Augmon's bid to be HC ruptures that link, that will be truly disheartening.

My prediction: UNLV gives him a low-ball offer, which UALR matches, and we're down to Menzie.

Youre joking right? Even if they could match it, we can just up the anti... youre not talking about a bidding war with a school invested in basketball success... they likely dont have resources to pay more than 400k..

A low bid can sometimes end up fatal and not ignite a bidding war at all. We communicate our seriousness for a candidate with our initial offer.

The guy is on 235k at Little Rock. If we can't close that deal, it's time to rip out the floor at the Mack and switch to Lacrosse.

Agreed.

And our point person for the whole thing was someone who has zero credibility with the fraternity of college coaches. Who knows how badly this thing was bungled procedurally behind closed doors.

I think I generally disagree with about 70% of what Chi Girl posts and found her bizarre defenses of Dave Rice especially maddening. That said, she was spot on about one thing- firing your alumni coach midseason would be remembered by potential candidates.

That's clearly happened.
