Baker in the Portal!

Yeah the writing was on the wall. He was given a decent amount of opportunities(I think almost all the players were) but he was one of the guys who just couldn't get it going the whole season. Not a surprise. I wish him well in his next stop.

Wonder how that changes CKK's recruiting strategy. Go for a high school player and another experienced transfer now that you have slots to spare?

The ignore feature is great. Especially if your delicate sensibilities make it difficult to handle opinions that are different from yours.
Seriously, I put my name on every post. I don't hide behind a screen name. I am not afraid to disagree with other posters.
I will admit that I am a fierce defender of players who are recruited to play for UNLV. They practice and play hard, are good teammates,, and work on academics. If they fulfill their part of the deal, that is worthy of at least, respect. They are not pieces of meat, to be discarded or demeaned simply because their stats disappoint us.
If a player does not fit the plan for the coming year, and the coach is honest with him, fair enough. If that means encouraging him to move elsewhere, I would hope that the coach who encouraged him to attend in the first place would assist him in relocating.
For us, being honest about a player's success is reasonable. Making fun of injuries, particularly head injuries, is not.
I pointed that out. I put my name on it. Internet warrior guy. Oh, and I don't block anyone. We I.W.s aren't afraid.

Not surprised by this. Any time a coach brings in a transfer, there is risk. Taking on a player that has had some run and seasoning in the P5 seems to have the highest probability of working out at our level. Kudos to Kevin for lining up 4 of these that will likely contribute and elevate us.

Our P5 haul from last year was mostly successful. Hamm and Williams were good gets. VI had injuries, showed signs, and will help us going forward. McCabe won't start on a good MWC team but played a ton by default.

Our non P5 haul were not ready to help us win right away. Muoka can help going forward but has been a bit of a project. Webster grew into his role scoring off the bench as the season went on. That probably continues. Nuga didn't kick on like we hoped. Didn't really work out. Hampshire had great hair.

Our JC haul was Baker. He never looked entirely comfortable at this level. Never had a confidence or assertiveness about him. Almost played to not make a mistake. Didn't show value.

I know this is not the biggest sample, but I am excited that we have all conference defensive type P5 transfers coming in. Pretty good chance to see those types starting and contributing if our 1 year trend continues. Brown and Baker entering the portal tells me Kevin wants more. I like that ambition.

I just hope competition for the point doesn't end up a pillow fight between McCabe, Gilbert, and Johnson. I'm not sold on any of them.

Freedom of speech, we aren’t going to become a Twitter land of allowing only one viewpoint. It’s always been that way here and I know some can’t stand it.

But by the same token, you have the complete freedom to not read by way of the mute. Just like some classical authors. Yeah, was forced to read some of them in HS, but once I wasn’t forced, if I thought what I read in HS sucked, I was free to never ready another of their novels. And that’s exactly what I did. I sought out authors that I liked, that made me think.

Freedoms are nice.

Kinda speaks volumes, doesn’t it?
Which is why I was personally critical of Kevin and Co’s recruiting. Some seemed content with mediocre talent and I’m not sure why. Still have a ways to go but things are getting much better this off season.

Yeah, Kevin's six week recruiting an entire team last year didn't produce enough wins. Six weeks should have been plenty of time. Every player should have been a star. Do better, Kevin!
