What’s a rough estimate of the extra revenue generated this season with two games reaching 40k in attendance, two games over 30k, and two games at 24k compared to previous seasons of barely getting 20k average for the season?
Could that money be used to give Odom a decent extension??

The average revenue is 5.5 million, some games were more than 6, maybe 7.

You are probably looking at 35-36 million in revenue on the season, given the attendance numbers that have increased.

We’re not including the 3 million non compete incentive for not playing at SBS and the future payments for staying in the MWC.

Curious to know how you get those revenue figures........must be some pretty expensive seats. What about the students? How much do they pay, how many seats do they get?

I’m guesstimating off the figures in this article which uses 2021 financial figures.

In the most recent complete financial report, UNLV football games at Allegiant Stadium in the 2021 season saw a net revenue of $5.5 million

I may have lowballed it, could be near 40 million in revenue if the average attendance is 32-33k.

Um, I read that as meaning UNLV netted $5 million for the season, not per game. And 2021 is the most current data available?

I believe Student tickets are included as part of their student facilities fees I believe. Not sure what the cut athletics get because it used to be by credit and charged to full time students each semester and also funds the rec center, Student Union, etc...
I don't think it's 5 million per game. Last yr we netted 3.2 million and got 1.8 in payout by the stadium agreement. Even with an extra 10k average for the season you're looking at maybe 5 million net which means no extra money from the stadium agreement... so yeah, there was some money, but not "give your coach mid-tier P4 pay" amount...

So let’s say we averaged 30k per game and there are 6 games. That is 180k total attendance. At an average price of 50 per ticket that is 9 million in revenue

plus our piece of concessions - if there is any.

The MWC Championship game on Friday will also bring in some cash. Ticket revenue is split between the two schools but, the home school will get a larger share. I haven't read how much larger. All the expenses are paid by the MWC.

After that we want the CFP +$6 million but, if we don't get there then we go to another bowl game where we will make some extra cash.

Winning has its perks.

In other words not 35 million as originally stated. Glad you can do math. Don't forget the $9M (or pick your figure) is gross revenue. Gameday expenses, visitor guarantees (I assume even in league?), etc.

Oh yeah, will there be TV? ESPN shows no TV.

So on a good year UNLV would average about 20k per game, six games 120k attendance, they just got 190k this season, so an extra 70k peeps at games and average $50 per ticket, so a couple extra million in tix sales, can’t UNLV use that money to get Odom on a long term contract and big buyout incase he gets an offer he can’t refuse.

Except it's not a couple extra million fir ticket sales. It just means we aren't pulling money from the stadium authority agreement, since we probably exceed the net revenue for sales not using SBS... on paper it looks like there's some added attendance $$, but that gets eaten quickly by game day expenses, etc into the departments revenue. So yeah short story, we can operate without losing money, but that doesn't directly translate into cash you can turn around and directly increase a coaches salary.

That money and there will be a deal in place, you can bet Odom doesn't want to have it be public till after the games are played, is likely from projecting futures such as the New MWC deal and attendance revenues mixed with private donations. And long term is relative, it'll be like 5 years, maybe 3-3.5 to start and increase each year with extras fir performance and attendance...

So we get $6MM just for making the CFP? That alone will take care of assistant staff salary increases over 5 years plus contribute a little to Odom's bump you just need to get Odom's money some of which should come from higher attendance this year and the conference title game. That is before we talk about the MWC bonuses we arranged.

The CFP Committee sees it is in their best interest to give the SEC & B10 something like $20 million, the B12 and ACC will get about $12 million, and any G5 school that gets in will make about $6 million. These are for the schools that get into the 12 team playoff.

The CFP also gives all G5 schools an extra $1.85 million. WSU and OSU were going to get less but kicked up a storm of whining and will get more than the other G5 schools. I believe I had seen the dollar figure somewhere around $3 million for them but, maybe @Loyal Coug1
would know.

I'm working off of memory here so the actual dollar figures need to be looked up for verification. I think I'm close though.

What I’m not clear about, and not sure if someone else on here knows, is if the CFP money goes to the school or the conference?

I’ve read conflicting things on this and just curious if anyone else has a clue.

From that I see that each of the 12 teams gets $4 million. That doubles for those teams that don't have a bye since they get $4 million for the quarterfinals. That would be $8 million for our first game plus an additional $3 million for expenses. From that article that is a lot different from what I thought I knew. This changes every years. This article states it a little different so try this:

Yeah, had read both of those before, which is sort of why it’s confusing. Both state that the money goes to the conference, so… I’m sure there has to be some of the revenue going to the actual school that makes it, just haven’t read anything that explains that portion.

My understanding is the conference gets the money and then much like the NCAA distributes as payout credits. Its why the new Pac 12 agreement allows teams to keep 50% of their playoff money or tournament credits. What the school does get is 3 million dollars to cover expenses for the CFP, and any bowl payouts if they advance past the first round of games. Some of the NY6 bowls have nice paydays attached to them

Your recollection of the Pac-2's whining and subsequent 2-year $3M allocation sounds correct.

Hey Coug, what's the status of the Pac media contract these days? I know they brought in that consultant a couple months ago, but I haven't heard anything since. Has there been any news from your end?

Seems like they might want to work faster on adding teams... You know they're a few months away from just inviting NMST to avoid the conference dissolving on them... When's that 2nd league year begin/end?

We have heard nothing on either the media deal front or the expansion front. Absolute crickets, which has become commonplace over the last year. No surprise given our lame Commissioner, WSU's own lame AD and our lame and lame duck president. On media, we have done OK viewership-wise with the CW, so I fully expect us to partner with them going forward. These last 3 Coug jobs against inferior teams has certainly dimmed the shining light the Pac/WSU thought they had.

Also nothing new from the Sac-12 group, other than one report allegedly from "sportswriter" John Canzano (aka clickbait and rarely on target) saying that Sac St. is a hard no. Which I think is BS - look at the group behind the Sac-12's efforts (link below). I mean c'mon Pac. Take a chance on them, we have nothing to lose at this point. On the other hand, the MW should just go in and grab them. As I stated on aa thread I started on my board (which has had absolutely zero replies but over 300 views), we or the MW need to grab them now so they can compete in the portal and recruiting trail to start building a G5 roster and get going on their promised new stadium. Next Spring is too late.

When is the date that the PAC needs to add the 8th full member by?

Chat GPT answer:

The Pac-12 has a two-year grace period to find at least six other members to maintain its FBS status
https://frontofficesports.com/newsletter/everything-to-know-about-pac-2-football-this-season/
. This means the Pac-12 needs to offer membership to at least eight teams for football by the end of the 2025 season, which would likely be around December 2025 or early 2026.

So that would really exclude Sac St. at this point right because of the time it takes to become FBS level from FCS?

The requirements for an FCS team to transition to FBS are:
  1. Sponsor a minimum of 16 varsity intercollegiate sports, including football, with at least 6 male or co-ed teams and 8 female teams
    .
  2. Schedule and play at least 60% of football contests against FBS members, including at least five regular season home games against FBS opponents
  3. Average at least 15,000 in actual or paid attendance for all home football contests over a rolling two-year period
  4. Provide an average of at least 90% of the permissible maximum number of overall football grants-in-aid over a rolling two-year period
  5. Offer a minimum of 200 athletics grants-in-aid or expend at least $4 million on grants-in-aid to student-athletes annuall
  6. Pay a $5 million application fee (recently increased from $5,000)

Right those are the requirements, but does that exclude them from counting towards being a "full member" since they are in a transition period.. and yes, they can play at the higher level but are not eligible for the post season for those 2 years.

I scratch my head at #1 (I've read this list before). WSU only has 15 varsity sports, so how come we don't get kicked out of the FBS?

#3 (Attendance) was rescinded a few years ago.

In any event, I believe that Sac St. would give us the required 8th member by 7/1/26 under the rules. If that weren't the case I'm sure we would have heard about it.

I thought the PAC had until June/July of 2025? I could be wrong though.

Isn't April of next year another target date? Schools need to give 18 months notice to conferences about intention to leave? Something to do with buyouts?

The deadline is June/July of 2026, BUT they would have to have someone signed by 2025 to make that happen for the “notice” reasons you stated… I think.

I am sort of confused on this though…

When the traitors announced they were leaving in August/September of this year, that somehow qualified as “2 years notice”, even though the deadline is actually July 1st (or whatever it is).

The explanation by someone’s opinion I trust on here was that anything more than 1 year qualifies as 2 years… I accepted that.

But because there are different penalties for 2 years notice and 1 years notice, what is the actual deadline for 1 years notice? Anything more than 0 years but not less than 1 year? June 30th?

I mean obviously that can’t happen, but I have no idea how that would work.
