I really thought this would be the toughest game of the last 10, even moreso than SDSU. I hate picking UNLV to lose, unless it’s a UNLV at Michigan type of game (football). I typically pick the Rebs to win otherwise. Yesterday, I picked UNR.
My superstitions through the last month - don’t drink beer, stay off the net, hit a non-routine convenience store for little stuff I need. Check, check, check. Didn’t matter. Glad I didn’t drink, had a bad bleeder at work, all hands on deck, so I missed the game live and recorded it. So I’m glad I didn’t pop on the Net. Watched it really late (early) and slept a couple hours and here I am.
Was disappointed in the early focus/effort. Some guys looked like they were on a mental vacation. It’s tough to depend on a “big” that can go for 24 points and look dominant or he can be a no show with 4 points. But in all, just awful production from the bench and a couple of starters. You aren’t going to win on the road with two guys doing everything and nobody else chipping in. The recognition from post guys is still poor. They really do look like they’re trying to solve a quantum physics problem at times.
In the end, I don’t think the loss is the biggest of deals. Once we lost to Southern, LMU, and the disaster in Florida, at least for me, realizing we once again blew a shot at any at large chances - the new adjusted goal was finish in the top 5 of conference to avoid that dreadful first day. Yeah, that’s moving goalposts a ton, making it an 80 yard field instead of a 120 yard field, but I guess you have to adjust expectations as things are exposed, for the better or the worst. But they showed some fight, against UNR last night and when they were on the outside looking in for a top 5 MWCT seed. No, I’m not celebrating it as some great achievement, but it’s better than season over before the Super Bowl.
I do think we will rock the hell out of SDSU …
