My wife has been telling me to go for a while and I've always dismissed it. As it got closer it dawned on me, which was so obvious, that THIS will never happen ever again. UNLV will never, in my lifetime, play in South Bend. I had to get the family tickets too, and I'm bringing my 73 year old Dad. That's 7 of us.

I'm looking forward to the entire weekend. We'll spend most of it in Chicago, but gameday will be special, regardless of the outcome.

Notre Dame is probably the most disappointing place I’ve seen a game. It was vs Texas too so a big name opponent. It wasn’t bad but I had much higher expectations, which is why I use the word disappointing. The best part of the weekend in South Bend which is a rundown rust belt town was Friday night at the Linebacker Bar. I’ve been to games in college towns all over the county and always arrive to spend Friday night in a college bar. If the Linebacker isnt atthe top of my list it’s in the top few places I’ve spend time on a game weekend, the Friday night bar we went to in Tuscaloosa a couple years ago may have it beat. For anyone going to South Bend absolutely hit up the Linebacker.

Interesting take. My experience there was quite the opposite. I loved the atmosphere, the walk, etc. To each their own, though I do understand if the ”let down” feeling when you have high expectations.

I was at the Notre Dame campus about a decade ago for a football game and the whole experience there definitely exceeded my expectations. I loved the experience of being there for a football game and Notre Dame might be the most beautiful college campus I have seen, even though the rest of the town of South Bend wasn't that great. I would for sure return there again to see another Notre Dame football game.

You're talking to a Mormon with 4 minors....if it was just my wife and I, we'd probably take it all in at the Linebacker. My wife's go to drink is a Virgin Jack and Coke, no sugar.

And I have heard that about South Bend. I'm happy we're spending the weekend in Chicago with the day trip to Indiana for the game. My son and I went in July and had a blast. We are the only 2 out of the 7 who have ever spent time in Chicago. I'm lucky enough to have kids who love to travel to new different cities. Growing up, every trip was Newport Beach, Salt Lake City, or Short Hills, NJ (with stints into Manhattan). Not much variation in our family vacations, and I didn't realize what I was missing until I got older.

I'll be there for the same reasons as you, and I agree its a one-time event. Plus, I like the visual contrast of Scarlet against Gold & Blue, lol.
