IMO, winning tonight would surely be our biggest conference victory, if not our biggest win of the year. UNM has everything in their favor tonight: at the Pit, revenge game following 12-point loss, Ben Carter out, momentum, etc.
If I was calling the shots, I would start:
Seagears
McCaw
Nwamu
Jones
Zimm
Can't afford to start Zimm, DJ, and DM because of Carter's absence. I'll give Nwamu the nod to add some more beef to the lineup.
Seagears is given strict orders to attack the hoop early and often. He has shown an ability to get to drive and score/create, but too often, it is our last resort late in the shot clock. He needs to assert himself early and often. Same can be said for McCaw, although I want him shooting some 3s, too.
I'd rather see us emphasize McCaw/Seagears/Jones/Cornish attacking the hoop instead of pounding the ball to Zimm in the post; that's not his strength. I want Zimm getting passes from guards off penetration for layups/dunks and popping out for some jumpers more than I want him with his back to the basket.
I'm not optimistic that we're ready for this game coming off of Saturdays losses (against SDSU and Carter), but if we are in attack mode and we can hit some outside shots (big if) we will be right there in the end.
And oh yeah, how about we shoot 70% from the line... that would help.
